| The story of Lenehans begins in 1865 when Thomas Lenehan, a High Sheriff and Alderman of the City of Dublin, founded the company. His business grew out of a manufacturing iron works. After the marriage of Thomas to Miss Ryan, who owned an ironmongers in Queen Street, the combined business was transferred to Capel Street where the store still serves the people of Dublin. |
| The company has experienced numerous changes over the many decades that it has operated. This is normal for a family company of such longstanding. The nineties brought about a company reorganisation resulting its trading being concentrated in Capel St. At the same time, the company expanded into the UK by acquiring businesses in the same industry. |
