SupaDec Decorator Plumb Bob & Line
Previous
A plumb bob is one of the simplest and most reliable tools for establishing a perfectly vertical line. The weighted bob hangs on a cord and, when it stops swinging, points to true vertical by gravity alone — no batteries or calibration needed. This Stanley version has a 78g steel bob and 2.6m of cotton line, giving enough length for most room heights.
In decorating, it is used to mark the first drop of wallpaper or lining paper to ensure the starting edge is plumb before pasting begins — a wall corner or door frame is rarely exactly vertical, so starting from a visual reference without a plumb check often leads to a pattern that drifts across the room. Hold the cord to the ceiling, let the bob settle, then mark a pencil line behind the cord. The 2.6m cord suits most residential ceiling heights.
