Many will say that Mount Waialeale on Kauai, one of the Hawaiian islands, is the wettest place on earth, and it is a definitely included amongst the top few, but Mawsynram in India holds the 38 year average record for 467.4 inches (11,870 mm) of rainfall a year , according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

If you compare this to Ireland, our average annual rainfall here ranges from 29.5 inches (750mm) - 49.2 inches (1250 mm). In mountainous districts rainfall exceeds 78.7 inches (2000mm) but that is still not even close to Mawsynram’s average of 467.4 inches (11,870mm)!
