Growing Information

Sow April–June in a propagator on a warm windowsill or in 7.5cm (3") pots in a greenhouse at approximately 20–25°C (68–78°F) using good quality compost. Cover seeds with 19mm (¾") compost. Germination can take up to 8 days.

Plant out once all risk of frost has passed, spacing plants 91cm (3ft) apart each way.

Alternatively, sow outdoors in May–June when frost risk has passed. Sow 2 seeds per station 25mm (1") deep and thin to the strongest seedling.
For very large pumpkins:

Restrict to one fruit per plant and feed regularly with a high potassium fertiliser. Grows best in rich, well-prepared soil.
