Is this oil suitable to apply on mdf wood? If not, what do you recommend, please?
Because MDF behaves differently from solid wood (very porous faces, extremely absorbent/brittle edges, and a fine fibre surface that can swell), it’s typically not recommended to use decking/exterior penetrating oils like Textrol directly on MDF. You won’t get predictable absorption or a durable, even finish, especially on edges.
For MDF, you’re much better off using products specifically stated as suitable for MDF, in this kind of sequence:
- Seal the MDF first (especially edges) so it doesn’t drink the finish unevenly.
- Then apply your topcoat (clear or coloured) that you want as the final look.
