Grow your own!

Simply enjoy gardening.

Indulge in eating what you grow.

Entering the summer season now and people from all over will be dining on fresh, bright, summery salads.

The sun starts to shine, energy levels are raised and healthy eating seems a lot more appealing.

Iceberg Lettuce is also known as crisphead lettuce.

This is one of the 5 types of lettuce varieties.

It has a crisp texture and is shaped like a ball or a ‘head’ of lettuce.

It is so low in calories that it is great for keeping you slim. Only 14 calories per 100g.

Iceberg lettuce does not contain the most nutrients out of the 5 different varieties, though it does contain:

  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin K
  • Vitamin B6

Sowing time is from March to June. This will give you a good harvest from June to October.

It is sad to hear that "there is only one grower of Iceberg Lettuce left in Ireland". So why not grow from home and grow your own?

At Lenehans we stock Iceberg Lettuce Seeds and the time for sowing  is now!
